Instrument transformers are specially designed to transform high system voltages and currents into smaller voltages and currents for remote metering and protection. Instrument transformers can be extremely accurate to allow the relay to protect the electrical system and still be isolated from dangerously high currents and voltages.I wrote and co-wrote some articles for the NETA World magazine on the two different kinds of instrument transformers. You can download those article by viewing the following posts. Many of the techniques in these articles are covered in the video below and can help re-enforce some those techniques with another perspective.
This is another video from the previously mentioned series, and it is a long one. However, it is a great introduction to the operation and testing of instrument transformers.
